I was up in the mountains for a women’s retreat this weekend. During free time, I took off for the river — and found these clumps of jelly-like stuff that I’d never seen before (and had no clue what they were.) Which, as a science teacher, drove me crazy. Anyway, back home, and mystery solved: they are colonies of fresh water bryozoans (each star-like group is called a zooid.) Learned something new!
